LOVES calculator
One method, nothing hidden: merge two names, count the letters L, O, V, E and S, then fold the five counts down — neighbouring numbers added, last digit kept — until a two-digit percentage remains.
Try a famous pair:
LOVES percentage
How it works: merge both names, count the letters L, O, V, E and S, then keep adding neighbouring numbers (last digit only) until two digits remain. Same names, same score — in either order.

Why this method gives some pairs 98 and others 21
The score is entirely decided by how many of the five special letters the two names contain between them, and how those counts fold together. Names rich in o's and e's start with big middle numbers, which tends to keep the folded result high; names with none of the five letters start at 00000 and stay at 0% — rare, but it happens with short names. There is no deeper pattern to find, and this page will not invent one: the full method, with two pencil-checkable examples, is written out on love percentage by name.
Questions
Is 0% or 100% possible?
0% is possible when neither name contains any of L, O, V, E or S. A true 100 would need the fold to end in exactly "10" followed by a final step that cannot occur — in practice scores land between 0 and 99, because the last two digits are read as one number.
Do middle names count?
Only if you type them. The game uses exactly the text you enter, which is why friends sometimes disagree about scores: they were playing with different name strings.
Can I play it on paper?
Yes — that is where it comes from. The worked examples on the method page are there so you can check this tool against your own arithmetic.
